FIRST PLACE

Weeks before giving birth to her first child, Dr. Anna Fisher is chosen for a mission to space. Although the decision to go is easy, Anna is faced with the difficult intersection of motherhood and ambition on the way to her dream. Inspired by a true story, this short film is set in the 1980's and follows the NASA Mission Specialist who paved the way as the first mother in space.

SECOND PLACE

The thing about farewell - despite our endeavor to learn to deal with it, we still feel the massive sense of powerlessness when we actually have to face it. Hang-yi and Kei have been best friends since they were at school. Hang-yi loves performing, while Kei is an astronomy enthusiast. With the mass migration wave in Hong Kong, Hang-yi is departing today. Kei, though able to keep her cool and say goodbye, breaks down only after her best friend is gone.

A mix media approach, using acrylic painting to interact with real space videos and photos to show humanity watching the sky since its inception. It depicts outer space as a canvas, being painted on by human exploration, and highlighting the teamwork and detailed planning and construction of space engineering.

Every Sunday, she dresses up like an astronaut and takes her abuelita to the lighthouse, in hopes that one day it’ll turn into a space shuttle. Today is the day her dreams come true, she becomes an astronaut.
